Auditor-General to submit interim report on contractor claims for payments to begin – Finance Minister

The Auditor-General will soon release an interim audit report. This report will address outstanding contractor claims. It will help the government start clearing these payments.

This information came from a meeting between Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Ecobank Group CEO Jeremy Awori.

The government inherited contractor arrears of GH¢67 billion. It has promised to audit and settle these debts over four years. To begin this process, GH¢13 billion is allocated in the 2025 Budget for verified claims.

Dr. Forson stressed the government's commitment to avoid new arrears. He mentioned recent changes to the Public Financial Management Act. These changes aim to improve discipline and transparency in public procurement and contract management.

As Ghana's largest financial institution, Ecobank was encouraged to support economic recovery. The focus is on private sector development and agriculture.

In response, CEO Jeremy Awori affirmed Ecobank’s commitment to Ghana’s recovery. He indicated readiness to increase lending and collaborate with the government.

The meeting also included Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor.
