Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, criticized the former Akufo-Addo government. He called them "an unserious bunch of plunderers and economic vampires."
His comments followed a statement from Dr. Joseph Obeng. Dr. Obeng is the president of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA). He urged traders to review and adjust prices for goods and services.
GUTA believes prices should change due to the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi. They see this strengthening as a positive development.
Dr. Obeng stated that GUTA appeals to traders to adjust prices accordingly. This adjustment would help share gains from the cedi's appreciation with consumers. It would also promote fairness and build trust between traders and customers.
Cudjoe noted that this is the first time GUTA has called for price reductions in Ghana's recent history. He highlighted that in just 125 days under John Mahama, positive changes are happening.
He shared his thoughts on social media, stating that GUTA's call reflects better currency management and economic discipline. Cudjoe emphasized how different things could be if they were still under the previous government’s leadership.
He concluded by expressing relief at the current situation compared to before.
