Patience Botwe, the first accused in the theft case involving former Minister Cecilia Dapaah, claims that the properties and money linked to her are inheritance from her late brother, Joe, who allegedly won a large lottery prize before his death.
Botwe’s defense argues that the funds were legally passed to her through Christiana Achab, the fifth accused, who helped purchase assets on her behalf.
During the trial, prosecution witness Daniel Osei Kuffour admitted uncertainty about the legitimacy of the stolen funds and revealed discrepancies in the initial amount stolen.
The charges against Botwe and others have been expanded to include conspiracy, stealing, and money laundering.
The trial is set to resume in February 2025, with further investigations into the assets involved.
