Automobile Dealer Granted GH¢600k Bail In Alleged Fraud Case

Emmanuel Boateng, a 42-year-old automobile dealer, has been granted bail. The bail amount is GH¢600,000. He was previously remanded into custody for conspiracy and fraud.

Boateng pleaded not guilty in court on March 10. Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit granted him bail under strict conditions.

The court requires Boateng to provide three sureties. Two must be public servants earning at least GH¢2,000 monthly. The third must justify the bail with property of equal value.

Boateng must also deposit his Ghana Card with the court registry. He is required to report to the police once a month until further notice. The case has been referred to the Office of the Attorney-General for advice. The next hearing is set for May 28, 2025.

**The Case Against Boateng**

Boateng and his accomplice, Frank Obeng, face charges of defrauding Ibrahim Issaka. Issaka is a footballer based in Achimota, Accra. They allegedly defrauded him of $37,000 under false pretenses.

Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder reported that Issaka visited Boateng’s garage in November 2024. He initially showed interest in buying a 2018 Honda Accord but found faults and declined.

Boateng then presented pictures of a 2022 Honda CRV. He claimed he imported it from the U.S., awaiting its arrival for sale. Convinced by this claim, Issaka agreed to buy it for $37,000.

Issaka transferred the money into an account supposedly belonging to Boateng’s brother, Frank Obeng. However, when delivery was due in December 2024, the vehicle never arrived.

Investigations revealed that Boateng later claimed Obeng had been arrested in the U.S. He said this prevented completing the transaction but provided no evidence for his claim.

After Issaka complained to the police, Boateng was arrested and charged. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend Obeng. Court proceedings will resume in May as investigations continue.
