Automobile artisans urge gov't to support establishment of workshop facilities

The Association of Automobile Artisans of Ghana faces major challenges. They lack resources and workshop facilities. These issues hinder their ability to expand operations nationwide.

The association recently launched a 24-hour vehicle repair service. They believe that adequate resources are essential for this service's success. They are asking the government to support automotive programs and provide dedicated workshop spaces.

Automobile artisans gathered in Kumasi for a stakeholder meeting. They also introduced the new national executive committee during this event. Members offer services for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.

National Chairman James Arhin discussed the service's potential benefits. He noted that limited access to workshops is a significant issue.

Arhin said, “We operate a 24-hour service nationwide, benefiting office workers.” He added that they urgently need dedicated workshop spaces across Ghana. The association currently lacks the resources to establish these workshops.

The association celebrated its 5th anniversary with the theme: “Reshaping the Narrative: Celebrating the Legacy and Future of Ghana’s Automobile Artisans.”

James Arhin emphasized their role in equipping young people with technical skills. This training helps them secure sustainable livelihoods in the industry.

The group seeks partnerships to improve operational efficiency for members' businesses. Arhin stated, “We provide hope and opportunities within the automobile sector.” However, securing investment partnerships remains challenging.

Recently, they partnered with Hollard Insurance, Seahorse, Equip Auto, and TSG Drive. Outstanding artisans received awards and certificates for their contributions.

Prof. Prince Owusu Ansah from Kumasi Technical University urged artisans to adapt to modern trends. He stressed that knowledge of emerging technologies is crucial for success.

He expressed confidence that the association can train young people effectively in these areas.
