Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the MP for Awutu Senya East, has launched a campaign. This initiative aims to end the stigma around menstruation for girls and women.
The campaign kicked off on Menstrual Hygiene Day. It featured a procession with students from local schools in the constituency.
At the event, the MP stressed that menstrual health is a human right. She stated, “Menstrual health and hygiene are fundamental human rights.” Every girl and woman should have access to accurate information and hygienic facilities.
Okunor pointed out ongoing challenges faced by women and girls. These include limited access to sanitary products and stigma surrounding menstruation. She urged stakeholders to take action.
She called for proper education on menstrual hygiene. Advocacy for support towards menstrual health is also needed. Access to safe water, sanitation, and hygienic facilities in schools is crucial.
Okunor encouraged Ghanaians to support the government's free sanitary pad program. She emphasized its importance for sustainability. “We must support and demand the sustainability of this program,” she said.
