The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has started a decongestion exercise. This is happening in the Central Business District (CBD) of Kasoa. The goal is to remove traders from pedestrian walkways and main roads.
Municipal Chief Executive Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini leads this initiative. He wants to restore order and ensure pedestrian safety. He told Citi News that the exercise will continue. Traders are warned not to return to their previous spots.
Plans are being made to relocate affected traders to a new satellite market. The MCE mentioned productive discussions with the Police Commander. This issue was also discussed in a recent security meeting.
He has met separately with the Regional Commander as well. A task force is being formed with personnel from various services, including police and fire services. This task force will work alongside the Assembly's team for 24-hour patrols.
The MCE stated that laws exist for dealing with defaulters. However, he believes in dialogue first. The Assembly will engage traders and promote public education on these issues. Those who ignore the rules will face legal consequences, he warned.
