Ayine Is Mad Over A-Plus Sleaze Accusation …. Ready for showdown with entertainer turned politician

Dr. Dominic Ayine and A-Plus

Ghana's Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, criticized MP Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus. He called A Plus's claims “palpable falsehoods” and defamatory remarks about corruption.

Dr. Ayine spoke to the media in Accra after leaving court on April 30, 2025. He firmly denied taking bribes or engaging in corrupt acts as a public official. His comments followed a social media post from A Plus, who labeled him “corrupt” and a “thief.”

“As your Attorney-General, I assure you of my integrity,” Dr. Ayine stated. “I have never stolen or received a bribe in public office.” He dismissed allegations linking him to the Sanitation Levy passage. He was not part of the Finance Committee or involved in debates on it.

To support his claim, he presented a copy of the committee’s report. Regarding A Plus’s accusation of accepting campaign funds from businessman Dr. Sledge, Dr. Ayine confirmed receiving GH¢200,000 for his 2024 campaign.

He received GH¢100,000 directly and another GH¢100,000 for logistical support during vetting. He also acknowledged two pickups from anonymous donors. “These donations were made before I took office,” he said.

“I have had no dealings with these individuals since then,” he added. “I will not trade public interest for personal favors.”

Dr. Ayine challenged A Plus to provide evidence of corruption against him at a press conference or report it to the police. He also asked A Plus to explain why he felt threatened enough to rant on Facebook.

He warned that in his hometown of Zuarungu, they do not fear mudslinging; they confront it directly.

After the press conference, A Plus responded with a fiery Facebook post filled with insults toward Dr. Ayine. He suggested that the Attorney-General needed a “brain reset.”

The conflict between these two lawmakers has drawn significant public attention. It seems poised to escalate into a notable political and legal showdown in Ghana’s Parliament.
