BOMB – Arrest warrant allegedly issued for the arrest of former BoG Governor, Ernest Addison

A pro-NDC account on X claims an arrest warrant has been issued for Ernest Addison. He is the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana. The reason for this alleged warrant is not clear. We will know more in the coming days.

In 2023, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to jail Addison if they regain power in 2024. They blame him for the collapse of the Central Bank of Ghana. The NDC says poor management led to its bankruptcy.

In 2022, the Bank of Ghana reported a GHC 60 billion loss. This loss was attributed to the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme and rising inflation. The situation sparked public debate and political tension.

The NDC accused Addison of monetary negligence and lack of accountability. They also claimed he printed excessive money, causing the cedi's depreciation. Ghana's debt rose from GHS120 billion in 2016 to GHS600 billion in 2022.

Sammy Gyamfi, NDC's communication officer, stated that Addison is "jail-bound." He insisted there would be prosecution for decisions leading to the bank's losses.

On March 19, 2025, armed men raided Addison’s home in Accra. Richard Jakpa led this operation as part of national security efforts. The raid occurred around 5 am.
