BOMB – Wontumi exposed for allegedly receiving $12m from EXIM bank

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is in trouble. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Allegations have surfaced that he received $12 million from EXIM Bank.

Alex Kwaku Tetteh leads Citizen Eye Ghana, a pressure group. He claims to know that Wontumi received this money from EXIM Bank. His comments come after Wontumi's lawyer revealed new legal challenges.

Wontumi’s lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, is a former MP for Asante-Akim North. He stated that they received a writ of summons from EXIM Bank. This follows Wontumi's interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on May 27, 2025.

Appiah-Kubi told the media they will respond to the writ soon. He expressed confidence in mounting a defense against it. He emphasized that this is a civil matter and not criminal.

On Neat FM, Tetteh claimed he has evidence about the $12 million. He mentioned two tranches: one of $12 million and another of $8 million. Tetteh said Wontumi even remarked at a board meeting about receiving money.

He asserted he can provide evidence if needed. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Wontumi fell ill during his EOCO interrogation in Accra.

Tetteh also claimed he provided the location for Wontumi’s arrest. He criticized those who reported on Wontumi’s situation within their party leadership context.
