BREAKING – Adu Boahene re-arrested for another crime

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, has been arrested again.

His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, stated that Adu-Boahene was re-arrested after his release on Tuesday. He had served a seven-day remand with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). This new arrest is related to a different crime involving internet services for Ghana Water Limited.

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine announced that Adu-Boahene committed another criminal act. He allegedly redirected biweekly payments of ₵650,000 from Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to his own company.

Dr. Ayine explained that there was a contract between GWCL and the former Bureau of National Communications. GWCL was supposed to pay GHS1.3 million monthly for secure internet services. Instead of going to the Bureau's account, this money went into Adu-Boahene’s personal account.

At a press briefing on April 30, Dr. Ayine discussed the investigation's delay in filing charges. The team discovered another scheme involving Ghana Water Company Limited. Adu-Boahene provided his company's account details for payment purposes.

Every two weeks, GHS650,000 left GWCL's account but went to Adu-Boahene’s company instead of the Bureau's account.

The Accra High Court has instructed prosecutors to file all witness statements against him by May 26, 2025. Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante expressed concerns about the rights of the accused and urged for an expedited trial process.
