Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has been sworn in as the Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament, reaffirming his leadership in the legislative body. The ceremony, held on January 7, 2025, followed President-elect John Mahama's endorsement of his nomination.

Cassiel Ato Forson, the Majority Leader, moved the motion for Bagbin’s nomination, with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin seconding it amidst concerns over the nomination process. The Clerk of Parliament dismissed these concerns, ensuring the ceremony's smooth progression.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo administered the Oath of Office, officially confirming Bagbin’s position. In his acceptance speech, Bagbin pledged impartiality and called for unity to ensure effective governance in the NDC-dominated House.

Bagbin, a seasoned legislator with over three decades of experience, has pledged to steer Parliament with a focus on collaboration and constitutional responsibility.
