Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on Liberia’s 55th Legislature to set aside their differences and work together for the nation’s progress.

Addressing the House of Representatives in Monrovia on Thursday, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the need for unity, reconciliation, and consensus-building, warning that political divisions should not hinder national development.

“In times of division, it is tempting to retreat into comfortable corners of like-minded voices,” he said. “But history has shown us that progress is made when we listen, engage, and compromise.”

Quoting Abraham Lincoln’s famous words, “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” he urged Liberian lawmakers to prioritize national interest over partisanship.

Bagbin acknowledged Liberia’s ongoing challenges in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development, stressing that overcoming these hurdles requires collective effort.

His remarks were met with applause, with several lawmakers pledging to foster bipartisan collaboration for national growth. As Liberia shapes its legislative agenda for 2025, his message serves as a call for unity and responsible governance.
