Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, former MP for Anyaa Sowutuom, praised Speaker Alban Bagbin. He commended Bagbin's independence during the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) time in government. Dr. Adomako called his leadership a crucial check on executive overreach.
He spoke on Break Fast Daily on Channel One TV on May 6. Dr. Adomako noted that having an opposition Speaker was beneficial during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s second term. He acknowledged that Bagbin sometimes annoyed others but effectively held the executive accountable.
Dr. Adomako emphasized that Bagbin’s impartiality helped Ghana’s democracy thrive. It ensured the separation of powers was respected and maintained. He remarked that it was fortunate for Ghana to have a Speaker with a different political ideology.
He highlighted how the NDC found it significant to re-elect Bagbin as Speaker. Dr. Adomako Kissi appreciated Bagbin for resisting executive pressure in his role. He stressed that despite being from the opposition, Bagbin upheld Parliament's independence and integrity.
