Barber Granted Bail After Alleged Assault on ECG Staff

**Accra Circuit Court**

A 41-year-old barber, Kwasi Sunday, has been granted bail. He is accused of assaulting an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) staff member. This incident occurred after the staff disconnected his shop from the national grid for an alleged illegal connection.

Sunday appeared in court last week. He denied all charges against him. The court set his bail at GH¢50,000 with one surety. The case is adjourned to April 11, 2025.

Kwasi Sunday faces charges of assault, illegal interference with ECG’s system, and stealing.

**Case Background**

According to the prosecution, Iddrisu works at ECG’s Adenta District. In February 2025, he visited Sunday’s barbering shop for a routine inspection. He noticed that Sunday had electricity but no official ECG meter.

Iddrisu asked about this situation. Sunday reacted angrily and insulted Iddrisu, ordering him to leave.

After reporting to the ECG District Manager, Iddrisu was told to return on March 11, 2025. His task was to disconnect Sunday’s unauthorized power connection.

When Iddrisu arrived, he found that Sunday had illegally connected power from an ECG pole. As Iddrisu tried to disconnect it, Sunday allegedly pushed him down and injured his legs.

Iddrisu filed a formal complaint with the ECG Investigation Unit. He received a police medical form for treatment at Shai-Osudoku District Hospital.

After treatment, he returned with the endorsed medical form. Subsequently, police arrested Sunday. During investigations, he denied all allegations.

Following these investigations, Sunday was formally charged and brought before the Circuit Court. The trial will continue on April 11, 2025.
