Ghanaian activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has raised concerns over the President-elect’s plan to appoint 60 ministers, suggesting that it undermines promises of a lean government.
In a Facebook post, he argued that achieving a slimmed-down cabinet would be impossible without cutting unnecessary positions, specifically advocating for the abolition of Regional Ministers.
Barker-Vormawor pointed out that with 19 Cabinet Ministers and their deputies already filling 38 positions, adding 16 Regional Ministers would leave only six spots to meet the proposed ministerial limit.
His bold suggestion has sparked debate about the balance between governance efficiency and political patronage, continuing a long-standing national conversation about the size of government.
