Oliver Barker-Vormawor is a prominent social activist. He leads the Democracy Hub pressure group. He has emphasized the need for judicial intervention when the government acts unlawfully.
Barker-Vormawor stated that legal action is essential. It holds the government accountable and upholds constitutional principles.
“Our responsibility is to hold power accountable,” he said on Asaase Radio, as reported by MyNewsGh.
“If the government violates the law, the court must intervene,” he added. “We believe legal action clarifies what the executive can and cannot do.”
He also stressed that Ghanaians should unite to tackle national issues. He criticized traditional civil society groups for relying on donor funding.
“Unlike them, we want to mobilize Ghanaians to solve Ghanaian problems,” he asserted.
Barker-Vormawor noted that protests are just one part of a larger effort. Building a responsive democracy requires court actions, public engagement, and civic education.
“Protests are just one tool in our toolkit,” he explained.
He pointed out that the government's current approach represents both a legal and policy failure. He called for urgent reforms and a renewed focus on the rule of law.
