Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff, has issued a warning. He cautioned those causing unrest in Bawku. Any attack on civilians or military personnel will be seen as extremism. Such actions will be dealt with severely.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, he emphasized the Ghana Armed Forces' readiness to act. “I’ll serve a word of caution to all,” he said. He warned that troublemakers in Bawku have limited time left. Attacks on innocent people will face full force from the military.
He stated there would be “no safe haven” for violent individuals. Armed perpetrators will be pursued and brought to justice. “We will pursue every individual involved,” he assured.
Major General Gbetanu also addressed the youth directly. He encouraged them to choose dialogue and development over violence. “Lay down your arms, return to the path of peace,” he urged.
Earlier, he visited the Kusaug Traditional Council. He called for cooperation between traditional leaders and security services to restore calm. He asked chiefs to guide the youth and discourage confrontational behavior toward soldiers.
This visit was Major General Gbetanu’s first official tour of Bawku since taking office.
