Dr. Adam Bonaa is the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons. He has called for calm in Bawku amid rising violence.
His comments come after clashes on Wednesday afternoon. One person died, and the home of ACP Adamu Seidu was burned down. He is the Bawku Divisional Police Commander.
Dr. Bonaa noted that these acts of lawlessness are alarming. The burning of the police commander's residence shows a dangerous escalation. Immediate action is needed to prevent further chaos.
In an interview with Joy FM's Newsnight, he condemned individuals taking the law into their own hands. He stressed that the security situation in Bawku is worsening and needs urgent dialogue.
He urged everyone to remain calm and avoid vigilante actions. Dr. Bonaa called on the Kusasis and Mamprusis to engage in peaceful discussions about their differences.
He expressed hope that security agencies would restore calm quickly. This would allow for proper investigations into recent violent incidents.
