Bawku conflict: IGP visits gunshot victims

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, visited Bawku on Saturday, April 12. His visit aimed to assess security and improve relations with local youth. This follows a violent clash on Thursday, April 10, between police and youths. The confrontation reportedly caused multiple fatalities and injuries. During the unrest, the home of MP Mahama Ayariga was allegedly set on fire.

On Saturday, the IGP visited gunshot victims from the recent violence. The victims thanked him for his visit and requested lasting peace in Bawku. The team also went to the Police Training School at Nangode. There, they interacted with instructors and officers.

From Nangode, the IGP's team traveled to Pusiga for further discussions with officers and stakeholders. They also stopped at Kusasa and Garu to assess property damage and meet community members. On April 11, 2025, the IGP paid a courtesy call on Zugraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.

During this visit, he expressed sorrow over Fuseini Iddrisu's death. He sought support from the Overlord and elders to resolve tensions between youth and police. The IGP assured them that police are ready to work with the community for peace.

He urged all police officers to remain neutral and follow legal mandates. Additionally, his team engaged with other security personnel at the District Police Headquarters in Bawku. In a statement, police confirmed ongoing efforts to improve relations with chiefs and community leaders for lasting peace in Bawku and nearby areas.
