Bawku conflict hasn’t worsened under Mahama govt – Zebilla MP

Ebenezer Alumire Ndebilla, the MP for Zebilla, has denied claims about the Bawku conflict. He stated that it did not worsen under President John Dramani Mahama.

The Minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) claimed the conflict has deteriorated recently. They pointed to rising fatalities and property destruction. This followed a violent clash between police and local youth, resulting in deaths and injuries.

During this unrest, homes of Bawku MP Mahama Ayariga and Pusiga MP Lardi Ayii Ayamba were set on fire. Ndebilla spoke on Channel One Newsroom on April 11, calling these claims misleading.

He argued that the conflict escalated under the NPP regime in recent years. He noted significant developments have intensified tensions in Bawku. “In the last three to four years under the NPP regime, things have worsened,” he said.

Ndebilla emphasized that peace-building takes time and cannot be rushed. “You cannot expect an eight-year problem to be solved quickly,” he added.

He expressed hope for lasting solutions to the issues in Bawku. Ndebilla also reiterated the government's commitment to supporting peace efforts there. He called for a collective approach to address these challenges effectively.
