Bawku crisis: Exercise restraint and allow Otumfuo's peace process to come to its logical conclusion - Ayariga to residents

Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, has made an appeal. He urged residents of Bawku to exercise restraint. This call comes amid recent violent clashes between youth and security forces.

These clashes have raised tensions in the community. In a statement on April 11, Mr. Ayariga discussed the peace initiative's origins. It began under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who sought Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's mediation.

Current President John Dramani Mahama continued this effort after taking office in January 2025. "I support President Mahama’s decision for very good reasons," Ayariga stated.

He emphasized the need for calm and cooperation among all parties involved. "I appeal to everyone to allow the peace process led by Otumfuo to reach its conclusion," he said.

Mr. Ayariga also encouraged residents to engage positively with law enforcement officers. He urged the public to avoid confrontations with security personnel. Cooperation is essential to preserve lives and maintain public order.

"I appeal to everyone to maintain good relations with law enforcement agencies," he added.
