Bawku crisis: I remain resolute and committed to a lasting resolution – Mahama Ayariga

Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga is committed to lasting peace in Bawku. This follows recent violent clashes in the area.

In a press statement on April 11, he expressed condolences to bereaved families. He also sympathized with those injured in the conflict. His private residence in Bawku was nearly burned down during these events.

Currently on an official assignment abroad, Mr. Ayariga acknowledged youth frustration. They are upset about the slow resolution of the ongoing conflict and alleged misconduct by some law enforcement officers.

He emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is dedicated to justice and sustainable peace in the region. “I understand the anger and frustration of the youth,” he stated.

The MP urged all parties to support the peace initiative led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He noted that both Zugran Naaba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II and Nayiri Naa Bɔhagu Mahami Sheriga are actively involved in this process.

He called on constituents to unite for long-term peace efforts. Mr. Ayariga also addressed a “smear campaign” against him on social media. He claimed some individuals are trying to exploit Bawku's situation for political gain.

“Kindly disregard the lies being told about me,” he said. “The smear campaign will not distract me.” He remains determined to resolve the conflict according to Ghana’s laws and judicial rulings.
