Bawku crisis: President Mahama backs Otumfuo's peace efforts

President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the recent violence in Bawku. He expressed concern over the ongoing unrest. He hopes peace will be restored through mediation by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The latest violence began on Thursday, April 10. Clashes occurred between local youth and police forces. This resulted in several casualties, including injuries and deaths.

During the chaos, the private residence of Bawku’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, was reportedly set on fire.

At the Graduation Parade of the Ghana Military Academy today, President Mahama spoke about restoring calm. He emphasized the urgent need for peace in Bawku and across the country.

He praised the ongoing peace process led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He expressed confidence in Otumfuo's efforts to resolve this long-standing conflict.
