Bawku crisis: Support Otumfuo’s peace process - Mahama Ayariga appeals to residents

Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has urged residents to remain calm. He wants them to support the peace process led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

His appeal comes after recent violent clashes between youth and security forces. These incidents have raised tensions and concerns in the community.

In a press statement on April 11, Ayariga traced the peace initiative's origins. It began under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who sought Otumfuo's mediation.

Current President John Mahama continued this effort after taking office in January 2025. "I support President Mahama’s decision for very good reasons," Ayariga stated.

He emphasized the need for calm and urged all parties to back peace-building efforts. “I appeal to everyone to exercise restraint,” he said.

Ayariga highlighted the importance of patience in this delicate situation. He stressed that it requires collective responsibility from all involved.

He also encouraged residents to engage positively with law enforcement officers. Avoiding confrontations is crucial for preserving lives and maintaining public order.

“I urge everyone to maintain good relations with law enforcement agencies,” he added. This cooperation is vital during this interim period for community safety.
