Bawku has suffered enough; support peace, not pressers – Kotin to politicians

Security analyst Emmanuel Kotin is addressing tensions in Bawku. He urges political parties, especially the opposition NPP, to avoid politicizing peace efforts.

His comments follow backlash over remarks by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno. During a visit to Bawku, the IGP said local youth would be prioritized for police recruitment if they embrace peace.

This statement drew criticism from the Minority in Parliament. Kotin shared his concerns on Hot Edition with Alfred Ocansey.

He noted that a simple question led to significant reactions. The Minority held a press conference in response, which he feels are losing their impact.

Kotin praised the IGP’s approach as sensitive and diplomatic. He believes it elevates policing by considering cultural and emotional sensitivities.

He questioned the political motives behind the backlash. The IGP's comments were meant for all Bawku youth, not just one ethnic group.

Kotin asked if the IGP specified any ethnic group when discussing youth recruitment. He emphasized that not everything should be politicized, as people have suffered too long.
