Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice-President, is the NPP's 2024 flagbearer. He explained his quick concession after last year's election defeat. His goal was to avoid unnecessary political strife in Ghana.
He spoke to supporters in the Oti Region during a Thank You Tour. On May 9, he reflected on the tense aftermath of the December polls and legal challenges.
“I chose to concede early,” he said. “It was a difficult decision, but I wanted to save Ghana from tension.” He emphasized national unity over personal ambition.
Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in Ghana’s democratic institutions. "By accepting the outcome swiftly, we upheld the rule of law," he noted. This helped prevent further polarization.
He also thanked party members for their unwavering support. “I appreciate your sacrifices during the campaign,” he stated. “Your dedication has not gone unnoticed.”
“This tour is my chance to say thank you,” he added. He reaffirmed their shared commitment to Ghana’s progress.
