Bawumia: NPP delegate system to be expanded for broader participation

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the 2024 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He is also a former Vice President. He announced plans to change the NPP constitution before the 2028 election.

One proposed change is to expand the party’s delegate system. This will allow more members to vote for a Presidential Candidate and party officers. Dr. Bawumia spoke about this on April 23, 2025, at the NPP Headquarters.

He believes that expanding the delegate system will benefit the party. It will also encourage more members to participate in the electoral college. “You can expect changes to the delegate system,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted that about 2.1 million party supporters did not vote in the last election. He thinks this significantly contributed to their defeat. “Despite our hard work, we suffered a heavy loss,” he said.

He noted that many supporters stayed home instead of voting. This internal issue was crucial in their loss, according to him. “If we decide to vote, we will win,” he concluded.
