Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia - Former NPP Flagbearer
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for 2024. He expressed concern about public disputes among party leaders. He urged them to be tolerant and respectful towards each other.
During his ‘Thank You’ tour in the Savannah Region, he spoke to party supporters. He warned that airing grievances publicly could harm the party's future. He called for a "cease fire" among members.
Dr. Bawumia noted that negative comments were used against the party in 2024 elections. Advertisements featured statements from their own members during the campaign. He emphasized that such behavior undermines party unity and strength.
He encouraged NPP members not to lose hope for a brighter future. He believes history favors the NPP for a strong comeback in 2028.
He recalled how President Kufuor inspired him by sharing past election experiences. In 1996, Kufuor received only 39% of votes but won in 2000 with unity and effort.
Dr. Bawumia also mentioned President Akufo-Addo's journey after losing in 2008 and winning in 2016. He urged everyone to remain hopeful and united as they prepare for future elections.
Regarding the upcoming elections, he referenced the Professor Mike Oquaye Committee's report on past defeats. This report will guide the party as it reorganizes at all levels.
He acknowledged many issues raised and recommendations made by the committee. Dr. Bawumia stressed that all members must work together to correct mistakes.
While promoting optimism, he highlighted the importance of unity within the party. Treating fellow members with respect is crucial for their success.
“Unity is key,” he said, urging everyone to prioritize coming together as a family.
