Bawumia appeals for Kejetia Market Phase II to be completed

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made an appeal. He wants the current government to finish Phase II of the Kejetia Market.

He shared this message during his visit to Kumasi's Central Business District on March 25, 2025.

Bawumia stated, “I want to appeal to the [Mahama] government to complete the 80% done Kejetia Market Phase 2 that we started but couldn’t complete.”

During his visit, he donated Ghc 200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement. This donation aims to support rebuilding efforts for the burnt market.

Bawumia also praised the Ghana National Fire Service for their quick response in extinguishing the fire.

On Friday morning, a large fire damaged many shops in Kumasi's Central Business District.

The fire destroyed properties worth millions of cedis. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

While some traders managed to save some items, most lost everything.

Several government officials have visited the site to assess the damage. They have promised support for affected traders.
