Bawumia arranged sureties for Wontumi’s release - Hassan Tampuli claims

Hassan Tampuli, the MP for Gushegu and Deputy Minister for Transport, made claims about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He said the former Vice-President arranged sureties for Chairman Wontumi's release.

Chairman Wontumi was arrested earlier this week by EOCO. He was later granted bail of GH¢50 million with two sureties. Party members believe this condition is excessive and politically motivated.

On May 30, 2025, Dr. Bawumia and the Minority Leader visited Wontumi at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). This visit occurred amid rising tensions over his detention.

During an interview on Newsfile on Saturday, May 31, Mr. Tampuli spoke about Bawumia's involvement. He stated that Dr. Bawumia directly assisted Wontumi after his arrest for alleged financial misconduct.

“Let me put this on record,” Mr. Tampuli said. “Dr. Bawumia has arranged the sureties for Chairman Wontumi’s release.”
