Bawumia condemns Wontumi’s Rambo style arrest

Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has condemned the arrest of Benard Antwi Boasiako. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr. Bawumia believes no Ghanaian should be denied their rights. He argues that Mr. Wontumi's charges are vague and unclear. He urges EOCO and other state agencies to follow the law.

He emphasizes that respecting Mr. Wontumi's rights is crucial. Any failure to do so could undermine public trust in our justice system. It may also weaken our hard-earned democratic values.

In a social media post, Dr. Bawumia expressed concern about Mr. Wontumi's situation. He stated that his whereabouts remain unknown and the charges are vague.

He highlighted that in a democracy, no one is above the law. Every Ghanaian deserves their constitutional rights, regardless of political affiliation or status.

Justice and due process are essential for democracy, he said. Dr. Bawumia has been in touch with Mr. Wontumi’s legal team since morning to ensure his rights are protected.

He commended the legal team for their professionalism and vigilance during this time.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated his call for EOCO and relevant institutions to act within legal bounds. He stressed that any deviation from this could harm public trust in our justice system.

Ghana must be governed by law, not arbitrary power, he concluded. Our Republic is strongest when institutions are both firm and fair.
