Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to respect the rights of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Wontumi. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Wontumi was arrested by EOCO yesterday after responding to a police invitation. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Dr. Bawumia expressed concern over Wontumi's ongoing detention without clear charges. He also highlighted the lack of information about Wontumi's location.
He urged EOCO and other state institutions to act within legal boundaries. They must respect Mr. Wontumi’s constitutional rights.
Below is Dr. Bawumia's full statement:
"I am deeply concerned about Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako’s arrest and continued detention. The charges against him remain vague, and his whereabouts are unknown.
In our democracy, no one is above the law. No Ghanaian should be denied their constitutional rights, regardless of political affiliation or status.
Justice and due process are essential for our democracy."
"I have been in touch with Mr. Wontumi’s legal team since this morning. I want to ensure his rights are protected and due process is followed."
"I commend his legal team for their professionalism and vigilance."
"I urge EOCO and all relevant institutions to strictly follow the law."
"Respecting Mr. Wontumi’s rights is crucial for public trust in our justice system."
"Ghana must always be governed by law, not arbitrary power."
"Our Republic thrives when institutions are both firm and fair."
