Bawumia is a theoretical economist, not a practitioner – Ricketts-Hagan

Cape Coast South MP, Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, has criticized Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, labeling him a “theoretical economist” who has fallen short of expectations.

Speaking on GHOne TV’s State of Affairs, Ricketts-Hagan argued that Dr. Bawumia was marketed as an economic savior but has struggled to deliver tangible results.

According to Ricketts-Hagan, while Dr. Bawumia’s academic expertise earned him initial support, his lack of practical experience in addressing Ghana’s economic challenges has been evident.

“He propounded theories and gave lectures,” he said. “But as economists, we saw through him. He’s not a practitioner—classroom theories don’t always translate into effective governance.”

Ricketts-Hagan added that the NPP’s effort to package Dr. Bawumia as an economic expert has ultimately failed to meet Ghanaians’ expectations.
