The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, defended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Bawumia is the party’s flagbearer for 2024. Some claim he is using the "Thank You Tour" to improve his image.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Midday News, Nana B dismissed these claims. He stated that Dr. Bawumia acknowledges his role in the previous government. He said, “He kept using the word ‘we’ — we, the government.”
Nana B explained that Bawumia mentioned unpopular policies like the E-Levy and emission tax. These criticisms are not new; they have been discussed within the party before.
He added, “Even I am on record criticising some of these policies.” He noted that these issues affected their performance in 2024.
When asked about the "Thank You Tour," Nana B insisted it was a party initiative. He said, “It’s not true that the 'Thank You Tour' is meant to whitewash anyone.” The tour involves former aspirants and aims to thank supporters and engage with them.
Nana B emphasized that they want to explain their loss and rebuild unity within the party. He believes this tour has been successful across several regions.
His defense comes as some NPP members accuse Bawumia of not fully owning up to their defeat in 2024 elections. Critics say he blames others for their loss instead of taking responsibility.
During a recent visit to the Western Region, Dr. Bawumia linked their loss to public dissatisfaction with government decisions. He warned against ignoring public sentiment moving forward.
