Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed sympathy for traders affected by a fire in Adum, Ashanti Region.
The fire broke out early on Friday, 21 March. It destroyed many shops and properties, leaving traders in distress.
Dr. Bawumia visited the scene on Tuesday, 25 March. He called the incident “deeply unfortunate” and pledged support to those affected.
He was joined by former government officials and New Patriotic Party leaders. They all offered comfort to the victims.
To help traders rebuild their businesses, Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement.
He stressed the need for urgent relief measures. He urged authorities to work hard to prevent future incidents.
“This support is just a small way to help you,” he said. “I will continue to stand with you.”
Many traders thanked him for the generous donation. They noted that both the financial aid and cement would help them start over.
One shop owner said, “We have lost everything, but this gesture gives us hope.”
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. The community hopes for long-term solutions to protect their livelihoods from future disasters.
