Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. This visit followed an attempted arrest at Fordjour's home by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials.
The incident happened on Wednesday. It faced strong opposition from the Minority caucus in Parliament. They condemned the action as politically motivated.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour is the Member of Parliament for Assin South. He also serves as the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee. He alleged that two aircraft recently in Ghana may be linked to drug dealing and money laundering.
The NIB stated that they need his assistance for their investigation. After visiting, Dr. Bawumia said Fordjour was “in high spirit and undaunted.”
In a statement on social media, Dr. Bawumia shared details of his visit. He described Rev. Fordjour's positive attitude despite the incident.
Dr. Bawumia urged NPP members to stay composed amid what he called “unfortunate political persecution.” He encouraged supporters to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding during this time.
His visit adds to growing criticism of security institutions accused of political bias. Dr. Bawumia appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama for immediate action.
He reiterated his call for the President to control security operatives better. "Security institutions must not become tools for harassment," he stated.
He emphasized that Ghanaians will not accept a descent into lawlessness and fear. He called for protection of democratic norms and adherence to the rule of law.
