Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. This visit followed an alleged attempted raid on Fordjour's home by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials.
The incident happened on Wednesday and drew strong criticism from the Minority caucus in Parliament. They condemned the raid as politically motivated.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour is the Member of Parliament for Assin South. He also serves as the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee. Dr. Bawumia described him as "in high spirits and undaunted" after the incident.
In a statement on social media, Dr. Bawumia said, “Last night, following the attempted raid, I visited Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.” He emphasized that Rev. Fordjour remained positive despite what happened.
Dr. Bawumia urged NPP members to stay composed amid what he called "unfortunate political persecution." He encouraged supporters to "remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding" as events unfold.
His visit adds to growing criticism of security institutions seen as acting politically. Dr. Bawumia appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama for immediate action.
He stated, “I wish to reiterate my earlier submission to the President…to rein in his security operatives.” He insisted that security institutions should not be used for political harassment or intimidation.
Dr. Bawumia warned that Ghanaians would not accept a descent into lawlessness and fear. He called for protection of democratic norms and adherence to the rule of law.
