Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited Herbert, a KNUST student, on Tuesday. Herbert is recovering at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). He was stabbed multiple times during a violent incident at an NPP event in Kumasi.
Dr. Bawumia expressed sympathy to Herbert and his family. He wished for Herbert's speedy recovery. During the visit, he donated GH¢50,000 for Herbert’s medical expenses.
The stabbing occurred at the Pentecost Church in Bantama. It happened during a gathering organized by former MP Kennedy Agyapong's camp. This event was part of Agyapong's appreciation tour after the NPP presidential primaries.
Eyewitnesses reported that Herbert was performing with a Jama group from Unity Hall (Conti) at KNUST. Tensions rose when a wealthy associate of Agyapong offered money to performers. Soon after, armed men allegedly linked to the NPP stormed the venue and took the money.
Violence erupted as the Jama group confronted the assailants. Gunshots were fired, and Herbert was stabbed multiple times. He was rushed to KATH’s emergency unit for treatment.
Dr. Bawumia’s visit aimed to ease tensions amid concerns about violence at political events involving youth groups. His donation was appreciated by Herbert’s family and hospital staff, who thanked him for his support.
