Bawumia welcomes Prof Opoku-Agyemang back home after medical treatment

Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has returned home. She received medical treatment in London. President John Dramani Mahama, government officials, and supporters welcomed her.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang fell ill on March 28. She was flown to the UK for further care. She arrived in Accra on May 22.

A delegation led by President Mahama greeted her. Family members and the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church were also present.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia sent his best wishes via Facebook. He wrote, “A warm welcome back home to Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.”

He added that he and Samira Bawumia thank God for her recovery.

Upon arrival, the Vice President expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their support during her illness. She said, “God’s mercies have been infinite, as always.”

She thanked the medical staff for their dedication and interventions. “I’m happy to be back,” she stated, looking forward to continuing important work.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang praised President Mahama for his quick response during her health crisis. “You came and quickly set in motion everything that was needed,” she recalled.

She also thanked Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for his support during her recovery. “He stopped at nothing to ensure I had everything I needed,” she said.

A statement from the Office of the President confirmed she completed treatment and will resume duties soon. Prof Opoku-Agyemang thanked doctors at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) before her transfer abroad.

Her return ends her medical leave as the government focuses on key national priorities ahead.
