An aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has responded to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He expressed concern about the arrest of Chairman Wontumi. Wontumi is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Joyce Bawah Mogtari stated that Dr. Bawumia should be consistent in justice. She emphasized that all Ghanaians deserve due process, regardless of political affiliation.
Dr. Bawumia posted on social media about Wontumi's arrest and detention. He said he was deeply concerned about the vague charges against Wontumi. He also noted that Wontumi's whereabouts were unknown.
In a democratic society, no one is above the law, according to Dr. Bawumia. He insisted that every Ghanaian should have their constitutional rights respected. Justice and due process are essential for democracy.
He added that Ghana must be governed by law, not arbitrary power. Strong and fair institutions make the Republic stronger.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari reacted to Dr. Bawumia’s comments on X (formerly Twitter). She agreed with his belief in the rule of law and fundamental rights for all Ghanaians.
However, she found it ironic that these concerns are raised now. Many Ghanaians have felt unfair treatment from state institutions in recent years.
She called for transparency regarding Mr. Wontumi’s situation while urging consistency in applying justice standards. Justice should be upheld for all Ghanaians, regardless of party affiliation.
Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has spent a night at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). He failed to meet his bail conditions after being granted GH₵50 million bail with two sureties on May 28, 2025.
His legal team did not fully satisfy the requirements needed for his release.
