Bernard Avle urges young journalists to uphold values as Radio Univers veteran retires

Bernard Avle, General Manager of Citi FM and Channel One TV, encouraged young journalists to uphold journalism's core values. He spoke at the retirement ceremony for Dr. Alhaji Siddick Abubakar, former Station Manager of Radio Univers.

The event took place at the University of Ghana’s Great Hall. It was a night of elegance and tribute. Media veterans, legal minds, business leaders, and well-wishers gathered to honor Dr. Abubakar.

The ceremony celebrated over three decades of his dedicated service. He significantly shaped the careers of many respected Ghanaian journalists. Notable mentees include Bernard Avle, Bola Ray, Kafui Dey, Caleb Kudah, and Giovanni Caleb.

Dr. Abubakar urged the University’s leadership to modernize campus media platforms. He emphasized the need to adapt to evolving journalistic trends. “In an era driven by mobile journalism and data analytics,” he said, “the station must evolve beyond traditional formats.”

He stressed equipping students with practical skills for industry demands. Dr. Abubakar affirmed that Radio Univers will continue promoting journalistic values through mentorship.

Former volunteers shared heartfelt stories about Dr. Abubakar’s leadership impact. Media Personality Giovanni Caleb called him "an institution." He praised Dr. Abubakar's influence on many aspiring journalists.

Bernard Avle also addressed attendees at the event. He urged aspiring journalists to uphold truth, accuracy, and accountability in their work. “Radio Univers has been resilient,” he noted about its objectivity and hard work.

He highlighted that graduates from Radio Univers are dedicated professionals who prioritize their work over fame or money.
