Bissue, Andy Owusu granted GHC200k bail each in corruption case

The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Charles Bissue and Andy Owusu. Each was granted bail of GHc 200,000 with two sureties. One surety must be justified.

Both men face 15 counts of corruption-related offences. These include abuse of office for profit. They pleaded not guilty to all charges.

As part of their bail conditions, they must deposit their passports with the court registry. They also need to report to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) monthly.

The case has been adjourned to May 29. This follows charges filed by the OSP against both men.

Charles Bissue is a former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM). He and Andy Owusu are accused of corrupt practices linked to illegal mining operations.

Bissue allegedly used his public office for personal gain. According to court documents, he received GHC15,000 from Benjamin Adjapong through Andy Owusu around January 22, 2019, in Accra.
