Former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue, has responded to a writ from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The OSP seeks to prosecute him and Andy Thomas Owusu for alleged corruption and misuse of public office.
In a statement on April 29, Bissue confirmed that legal proceedings have begun. These relate to the Galamsey Fraud documentary by Tiger Eye P.I. in 2019. He rejected the accusations, stating he acted in compliance with legal and ethical obligations.
Bissue said any suggestion of misconduct is baseless. He plans to challenge these claims through due process. He also called for transparency in the trial.
Bissue urged the OSP to present an unedited version of the investigative video. He believes this is crucial for revealing the truth without distortion.
He noted that the prosecution is occurring under a new administration. This is different from when he served in office. Bissue emphasized fairness and hopes all parties can present evidence equitably.
He reassured his intention to cooperate fully with legal processes. Bissue asked for public restraint and trust in the judicial system.
He urged people not to make premature judgments about the case. “The people of Ghana deserve transparency and accountability,” he stated.
Bissue expressed confidence in an impartial resolution by the judiciary.
