Kim Lars Bjorkegren, head coach of the Black Queens, is confident. He believes his team can win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title this year.
Ghana will compete in WAFCON for the first time since 2018. They were hosts that year but failed to qualify afterward.
The Queens secured their spot in Morocco by beating Namibia in qualifiers. Bjorkegren replaced Nora Hauptle at the start of this year.
He is optimistic about winning the trophy upon their return. “For me, it is simple to win the gold medal,” he said to 3Sports.
He added that they must take it step by step. He knows they are not favorites outside Ghana.
“There are five nations with a better chance to win,” he noted. First, they need to qualify from the group stage.
After that, it’s three games, and he believes they can succeed. Ghana is in Group C with South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali.
