Black Stars: Otto Addo names 23-man squad for 2025 Unity Cup in London

Otto Addo, head coach of the Black Stars, has named a 23-man squad. Ghana will compete in the Unity Cup 2025 this week in London.

The squad includes experienced players and emerging talents. It also features four home-based players. This mix shows Addo’s commitment to youth and local strength.

Locally-based players include Benjamin Asare from Hearts of Oak, Razak Simpson from Nations FC, Kamaradini Mamudu from Medeama SC, and Kwame Opoku from Asante Kotoko.

A notable debutant is Joseph Tetteh Anang. He is a former West Ham United goalkeeper now with St. Patrick’s Athletic in Ireland.

Abdul Aziz Issah and Aaron Essel are also included. They were standout performers for Ghana’s U-20 team at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. In-form Caleb Yirenkyi plays for FC Nordsjaelland, while Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini plays for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.

Key players returning include Felix Afena Gyan, Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht, and Abdul Samed Salis. Salis returns after a long injury layoff and now plays for Sunderland in the English Championship.

The team will gather in London to prepare for the tournament. Other teams include Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. Ghana's semi-final match against Nigeria will take place at GTech Community Stadium in West London.

The winner will advance to the final on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The Unity Cup allows the Black Stars to assess new talent and refine strategies for future international matches.

Ghana has also shut down its Embassy in Washington D.C. due to a corruption scandal.
