Blaming others for NPP’s defeat is not accountability – Palgrave Boakye-Danquah to Bawumia

Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Bawumia is the 2024 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He attempted to distance himself from the party's failures. These failures led to their defeat in the December 7, 2024 election.

During his Thank You Tour, Bawumia cited several reasons for the loss. He mentioned arrogance of power and high living costs. He also pointed to a failure to reshuffle government officials. Other factors included the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) and an unpopular haircut policy under IMF debt restructuring.

Bawumia noted that these issues left many Ghanaians struggling economically. However, Dr. Boakye-Danquah challenged this narrative strongly. He called it an opportunistic attempt by Bawumia to avoid blame.

Boakye-Danquah stated that as Vice President, Bawumia had a platform to dissent. Instead, he chose not to speak out until it suited his ambitions. This selective distancing includes the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP). The DDEP caused financial distress and protests by pensioners.

Boakye-Danquah accused Bawumia of failing to address DDEP’s impact publicly. Now, he implies he was not fully responsible for it. This behavior "reeks of opportunism" and undermines collective accountability.

Bawumia's attempt to shift blame for economic hardships is disloyal, according to Boakye-Danquah. He highlighted issues like rising petrol prices just before the elections as well.
