Zoe, Akyea & Co. represents Kwabena Adu Boahene and Angela Adjei Boateng. They have criticized Attorney-General Dominic Akuritinga Ayine for violating their clients' rights.
The law firm issued a statement condemning a "reset version of the rule of law." They believe this has led to unfair judgments against their clients in public opinion.
Lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea expressed disbelief at the Attorney-General's actions. He noted that Ayine is a distinguished law lecturer. He questioned why Ayine would use the press instead of legal advocacy to share biased information.
Atta Akyea accused the Attorney-General of declaring his clients guilty prematurely.
Kwabena Adu Boahene, a former Deputy Director of the National Signal Bureau, and his wife were allegedly unlawfully detained by EOCO. The firm stated that Angela was arrested while visiting EOCO to see her husband.
They criticized this as an abuse of power and claimed their clients faced political persecution. The statement argued that a change in government should not undermine the rule of law.
The lawyers highlighted Boahene’s arrest, noting he returned to Ghana voluntarily. They mentioned he was publicly humiliated at the airport upon arrival.
"It is unbelievable for someone accused to return willingly," they wrote. They also claimed EOCO fabricated allegations about his travel class to mislead the public.
The legal team vowed to seek justice for their clients. "We are undaunted," Atta Akyea said, warning against erosion of due process in Ghana's legal system.
