The reconstruction of the Sunyani-Techiman-Wenchi-Wa-Hamile road will start soon. This is part of the government’s “Big Push” initiative. Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, announced this plan.
The Minister has instructed the Ghana Highways Authority to conduct studies. These studies will focus on sections not currently under construction. They are preparing for the upcoming work.
Agbodza stated that this corridor is crucial for the “Big Push” initiative. It is a major project set to be awarded in June. He urged those involved to speed up their work due to time constraints.
He made these comments during a three-day inspection tour in Sunyani. The tour covers Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and Western Regions. Agbodza highlighted the importance of road infrastructure for national development.
Despite financial challenges, road projects remain a priority for the government. He noted that roads are essential for farming, education, and healthcare. Economic development relies on addressing issues in the road sector.
Earlier, Agbodza inspected the 10.20km Terchire bypass off the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway. This bypass was constructed by Newmont Ghana. During his tour, he will also assess several other road projects.
These include reconstructing Jinijini-Sampa Road and Tepa-Goaso Road. He will also look at Sefwi Wiawso town roads and Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta Road reconstruction. Other projects include the PTC Interchange project and dualising Takoradi-Agona Junction Road.
