Borteyman Sports Complex, UG Stadium certified for international competitions - Mustapha Ussif

Former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif informed parliament that two venues are ready for international competitions. The Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Stadium can now host major events. This includes the upcoming 2026 Africa Athletics Championships.

Ghana will first host the African Games in March 2024 in Accra. After that, the country will welcome the Africa Athletics Championships, as confirmed by World Athletics. The Ghana Athletics federation announced this on its X account in June 2024.

Ussif spoke about these venues during a parliamentary session. He noted that they were commissioned under the Akuffo-Addo government. These facilities have opened doors for international sporting events.

He described the Borteyman Sports Complex, which features a multi-purpose hall and five tennis courts. It also has an athletic track installed by Mundo, a world-class installer. All these facilities are certified for sporting activities in Ghana.

Ussif also highlighted upgrades to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. A new warm-up facility was built near the main dome, meeting international standards. Because of these improvements, World Athletics has certified this venue.

Ussif emphasized that these achievements show the government's commitment to sports development in Ghana's history. The University of Ghana Sports Stadium was initiated in 2004 and completed on March 1, 2024. It hosted both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2023 African Games earlier that month.
